- An Oral History is an interview of a veteran, using structured questions. It can be either audio or audio/video.
- Your Oral History can be a gift to your family, a legacy that can be valued and treasured. If meeting certain standards, it can also be archived in the Library of Congress.
- Anyone can do the interview: yourself, family members (especially grandchildren!), shipmates, friends, government representatives, VA, VFW, American Legion, civic clubs, Boy Scouts, etc.
Almost 50 Oral Histories of USS Saint Paul sailors are available through the Library of Congress and other sources. They are listed in the above article- Collected Oral Histories- Stories from Our Sailors
How to find an Oral History (Personal Narrative) at the Library of Congress:
- · Go to LOC.GOV
- · At the upper right hand corner, you will see a rectangle containing two boxes. The left box will say “Everything.”
- · In the left hand box, search down the menu to find “Personal Narratives.”
- · In the right hand box, enter the person of your interest, or the complete listing of “USS Saint Paul (CA-73.”
- · Click on the magnifying glass. It will take a few seconds to load.
Please consider if you would like to do an Oral History. Or if you would like to conduct an Oral History for a shipmate.
